An Israel Air Force air strike early Wednesday hit the Gaza Strip home of a well known Hamas parliament member in what the army said was an attack on a weapons factory.

In the West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian hospital workers said a civilian had been shot dead during an army raid. The Israel Defense Forces said it believed it had shot a man who was planting a bomb.

There were no reports of casualties in the air strike on the building of Mariam Farhat, better known as Umm Nidal, who has often voiced pride at the death of three of her six sons during the Palestinian uprising, or Intifada.

Residents were warned in advance of the attack, in which the building was badly damaged.

"There was an air strike on a weapons storage and manufacturing facility," an army spokeswoman said.

Farhat is one of the best known of the Hamas parliamentarians, first gaining attention for appearing with her 17-year-old son Mohammed in a video recorded before he carried out a shooting attack on a Jewish settlement in 2000 in which he killed five people before being shot dead.

On Tuesday, a missile fired from an IAF aircraft wounded at least one gunman in the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian security source said.

A drone fired at a Hamas base near Gaza City, wounding a militant from a rival militant group to Hamas, known as the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the source said.

An Israel Defense Forces spokeswoman said there had been "an air strike against a terrorist involved in attacks on our forces."

IDF troops thwart attempted terror attack at West Bank checkpoint
Israel Defense Forces soldiers on Tuesday arrested two Palestinian youth attempting to carry out a suicide bombing attack near the West Bank city of Jenin.

Military police troops searching the youths youths during a routine security check at the Rihan checkpoint found two pipe bombs weighing a kilogram each strapped to one of their bodies. Troops arrested the youths and sappers safely detonated the explosives.

The youths told police during their investigation that they had been sent by Hamas militants to carry out the attack.

This is the second attempted terror attack at a West Bank checkpoint in 24hours. IDF troops on Monday shot dead a Palestinian youth who they said pulled out a knife and attacked a soldier at the Hawara checkpoint, south of Nablus.

Also Tuesday, IDF special forces operating in Ramallah arrested a wanted Fatah militant.

Troops came under fire during the operation, apparently from gunmen in a nearby house. When the forces then encircled the house, one of the suspected gunmen fled, as soldiers chased him down and arrested him.

Earlier Tuesday, Palestinian sources said a 21-year-old armed Palestinian was killed by Israel Defense Forces fire in the Gaza Strip.

IDF reservists opened fire on two armed Palestinians spotted approaching their position on the border fence east of Dahaniya in the southern Gaza Strip. The second militant was wounded in the shooting.

There were no Israeli casualties in the incident.

In a separate incident, Palestinian militants fired anti-tank rockets at IDF troops in the northern Gaza Strip. No one was wounded and there was no damage.
