Four Egyptians arrested for trying to enter Gaza Strip via tunnel
By Haaretz Service, News Agencies

Four Egyptians trying to cross illegally into the Gaza Strip through a tunnel under the Gaza-Egypt border were taken into custody early Saturday, Egyptian police said.

The four men were arrested at dawn and were transferred to the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya for military prosecution, police officer Mohammed Badr said.

No weapons or drugs were seized in the arrest, The Associated Press reported. It is not immediately clear why the four were trying to cross into the Palestinian territory of Gaza.

Also Saturday, Israel Defense Forces soldiers at a lookout post opened fire on a group of Palestinians approaching the separation fence near the West Bank village of Kaffin, wounding one of them.

Troops uncovered and defused two large explosive devices during a subsequent sweep of the area.

In a separate incident, Palestinians opened fire and threw an explosive device at IDF troops operating in Nablus.

In the northern Gaza Strip, a roadside bomb exploded near an IDF vehicle. The vehicle was damaged but there were no casualties.

Israeli security forces arrested two Islamic Jihad activists west of Jenin.

Palestinian militant killed, 5 others trapped in collapsed border tunnel
An explosion collapsed a tunnel under the Gaza-Egypt border early Friday, trapping five militants inside and killing at least one, Palestinians said.

The Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a violent offshoot of the Fatah movement of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, said the five were members. The group refused to say what they were doing.

After first blaming Israel for the explosion, the militant group later confirmed that it had not been caused by an Israel Air Force strike. The Israel Defense Forces said it had no troops inside Gaza and denied involvement in the incident.

Israel often attacks tunnels under the border, saying they are used for smuggling weapons and explosives into Gaza.

Egyptian arms dealer arrested
Egyptian Police arrested an illegal arms trader who had 64 anti-tank mines in his garden in Sinai, the scene of several major terrorist attacks in the past two years, Egyptian authorities said Friday.

Police do not yet know whether the detainee, Mohammed Mosalam Salem, 23, sold any mines to Islamic militants, police Captain Mohammed Badr said.

"He was selling the land mines to anybody and everybody," Badr said of Salem, who is being investigated.

Police raided Salem's house in the al-Karamah district of El Arish, northern Sinai, on Thursday night after receiving a tip-off, Badr said.

Islamic militants have carried out three major bomb attacks in Sinai's tourist resorts since October 2004, killing a total of 124 people.
