(AP) Last update - 02:33 05/10/2006 Russian FM: IDF soldiers held in Lebanon alive, in good condition By Gideon Alon, Haaretz Correspondent Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday that Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, IDF soldiers held captive by Hezbollah in Lebanon, are alive and in good physical condition. Lavrov made the remarks to a Knesset delegation at a meeting of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France. The delegation's chairman, Israel Hasson (Israel Beiteinu) told Haaretz that the meeting, which lasted fifteen minutes, was attended by Karnit Goldwasser, wife of Ehud, who was added to the delegation at the request of Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik. Advertisement Hasson said Lavrov did not divulge many details, but said Russia is involved in efforts by the United Nations to free the two IDF soldiers held in Lebanon, and Gilad Shalit, held by Hamas-linked militants in Gaza. Lavrov added that Russia was pressuring Syria and Iran to provide a sign of life from the captive soldiers, but said that he was unable to provide further information on the contacts. Karnit Goldwasser told Lavrov that she had heard rumors that the soldiers were injured in the kidnapping, in which eight IDF soldiers were killed, and asked him to ensure that they receive adequate medical treatment. Lavrov promised to continue his efforts and to update Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on any new details he received on the conditions of the soldiers.
