By Amos Harel, Haaretz Correspondent

Israel Defense Forces Brigadier General Tal Russo was promoted to major general on Wednesday and appointed head of the General Staff's Operations Directorate.

Defense Minister Amir Peretz approved the appointment, which was recommended by IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz.

Russo will take the place of Major General Gadi Eizenkot, who was recently made GOC Northern Command.
