Health care products maker Perrigo Co. said Monday the Food and Drug Administration tentatively approved its version of a nail lacquer made by a division of Sanofi Aventis.
Final approval of the product, called Ciclopirox Topical Solution 8 percent, is subject to the expiration of the patent on Sept. 18, 2007. Sanofi's Dermik Laboratories makes the patent-protected product, called Penlac Nail Lacquer.
The nail lacquer treats mild to moderate fungal infections of fingernails and toenails and had sales of $125 million for the 12 months ending in August, according to industry data cited by Perrigo.
Shares of Perrigo, which is dual listed in New York and Tel Aviv, fell 9 cents to close at $16.88 on the Nasdaq last night.
