Police investigators probing Katsav to present AG with findings
By Jonathan Lis, Haaretz Correspondent

The police team that has been investigating President Moshe Katsav is due to present its findings to Attorney General Menachem Mazuz on Tuesday.

After Mazuz has reviewed the evidence, he and the police will decide whether further investigation is necessary, or whether the various cases are ready to be transferred to the prosecution for a decision.

Police have thus far investigated four different issues, but the bulk of the probe has been devoted to a string of alleged sexual offenses by Katsav. The most serious of these is his alleged rape of a former employee, A.

Police have also received complaints of sexual assaults or harassment from six other women, but the statute of limitations has already elapsed in most of these cases, meaning that charges cannot be pressed.

The second issue involves alleged irregularities in the way Katsav granted pardons. While police did not find any cases in which he granted pardons to people who were ineligible for them, intervention by his associates allegedly sped up the handling of certain cases.

The third issue involves alleged illegal wiretapping of President's Residence employees by Katsav, while the fourth involves suspicions that A. tried to blackmail the president.
