Tirat Hacarmel resident suspected of killing his wife and himself
By Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondent

Police found the body of a man in Haifa and later the body of his wife in Tirat Hacarmel on Sunday. Police concluded that the man had stabbed his wife and then hanged himself.

Nissim Tayer, 50, was found hanging a little before 11:00 a.m in the garage where he worked, in an apparent suicide. Upon the discovery of his body, police rushed to his home in Tirat Hacarmel where the body of his wife, Kochava, was found lying next to a knife.

The evidence in the case seems to indicate that the man stabbed his wife to death, although no signs of struggle were apparent in the house, and then went to the garage and hung himself. Police believe the murder took place following a confrontation between the two, who were in the midst of a divorce.

The police had issued a restraining order against the man following a complaint of violence from the wife. The order was in effect for 30 days. When the order expired, the court ruled that the couple would be permitted to reunite, and resume living together.

The couple had three grown children who no longer live with them.
