Eight choreographers from Europe will participate in this year's DancEuropa events on October 16-31 in Tel Aviv. The event, whose purpose is to strengthen the cultural ties between Israel and European Union member countries, is an ongoing joint effort between the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theater and the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center (TAPAC), where the events will be held. Other partners in this project include the EU, the Tel Aviv Municipality and the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

The choreographers will mount seven works performed by 35 dancers, mostly from overseas, and some from Israel.

"Blame it on Gavrilo," by Austrian choreographer Karl Schreiner (in conjunction with choreographer Nikolaus Adler), performed by eight Israeli dancers, will mark the opening of DancEuropa 2006. This work, which deals with a romantic relationship halted by the war, commemorates 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Austria and Israel (TAPAC, October 16-17.)

Romanian choreographer Edward Clug, will stage his "Radio and Juliet" performed by the Maribor ballet company from Slovenia. This work is based on William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" and is performed to the accompaniment of songs by the British band Radiohead and music by Mozart with an eastern arrangement (TAPAC, October 19-20.)

Patrick de Bana will present the Nafas Dance Company of Spain in "Good Night, Amadeus" (Suzanne Dellal Center, October 23-26), while Greek dancer Rigos Konstantinos will perform in the nude in a solo work, "Hermaphrodite," by Apostolia Papadamaki (Suzanne Dellal Centre, October 26-27.) Three choreographers from the British "Bare Bones" project will mount three separate works for five dancers each: "And Then Gone," by Artur Pita of South Africa; "With the Company We Keep," by David Massingham of Britain and "Crazy Gray," by Liam Steel, also from Britain.
