Haaretz correspondent Yoav Stern has been awarded the journalism prize of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for Dialogue between Cultures.

The prize, which Stern received Sunday in Alexandria, Egypt, was given for a series of articles about Umm al-Fahm in the election that appeared in March in Haaretz.

The goal of the Anna Lindh Foundation, which operates in the framework of the European Union, is to improve ties between Europe and the Middle East.

Stern shared the prize with three other journalists, from Egypt, Italy and Belgium, all of whose work dealt with relationships between minority groups and majorities in their countries.

Israel's ambassador to Egypt, Shalom Cohen, and the consul general in Alexandria, Eli Entebi, attended the ceremony, which was widely covered by the Egyptian press.
