Settler women cry sexual harassment by Israel Police

Two young women who were arrested last week after being evacuated from the West Bank settlement outpost Ramat Migron on Sunday claimed they were strip-searched and harassed by female police officers.

The two young women, one of whom is a minor, were arrested last Wednesday on suspicion of attacking a police officer while being evacuated from the outpost. The women claim that a female police officer searched them in an invasive manner while they were detained at the police station in the West Bank settlement of Binyamin.

H., the minor, told Haaretz that after she was questioned, police conducted a security check to search for sharp objects during which she claims the officers asked her to undress and harassed her when she refused.

"The told me it's either by will or by force," H. said. "They asked me how many layers I had on and I said three. I kept my undershirt on, and one of them touched me under my shirt while the other kept an eye on the door."

"She felt all my body parts and really went overboard," H. continued, adding that she will be filing a complaint with the Police Investigation Unit.

The second young woman's father said police conducted the search in order to humiliate the young women. "What is the chance they would have weapons on their bodies?" he asked. He also plans to file a civilian complaint against the station commander.

National Union MK Michael Ben-Ari on Sunday also demanded a police investigation into the incident, and requested that the female officers in question be detained.

A police spokesperson responded, "There is no basis to the claims. While the women were at the station, a search was conducted according to the law. If they have complaints, they can turn to the Police Investigation Unit."
