Shalit advocates planning to renew campaign

The group campaigning for the relase of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit is planning to renew its efforts, leaders of the movement said.

Shalit has been in Hamas captivity in Gaza for 3.5 years.

The family and activists had lowered their profile after a video of Shalit was released a few weeks ago. This was the first sign of life Hamas had given of the soldier.

"The headquarters and the activists are ready to make their voices heard so that decision makers will not be able to take this issue off of the agenda," said Shimshon Libman, headquarters chairman.

Libman was speaking at the bicycle race around Lake Kinneret, which was dedicated this year to raising awareness about Shalit. Thousands of volunteers are ready to take part in the campaign, he said. The race included 8,000 cyclists and dozens of Shalit activists.

"Since his family received the video of Gilad, we have been taking quiet steps in order not to cause a disturbance and to give the prime minister space, but we are now ready to come back and make our voices heard," Libman said.
