Police in the Sharon area have been placed on the highest level of alert on Wednesday due to fears of a possible infiltration by a terrorist.

Acting on intelligence, significant forces from the police's Central District, the Border Police, and the Shin Bet security service are at this hour combing areas in search of a suspicious individual believed to be intent on carrying out a terrorist attack.

Checkpoints have been set up in various points in the Sharon, Israel's coastal plain which stretches from Herzliya to Hadera. As a result, heavy traffic jams have been reported on the region's highways.
