IDF executes largest-ever terror attack simulation
By Anshel Pfeffer, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Home Front Command

The Home Front Command will perform a simulation of a multiple casualty terror attack on Tuesday, the largest drill of its kind to ever take place in Israel.

The exercise will simulate a massive explosion in a mall in Haifa, which would cause around 600 casualties.

The drill will be executed in cooperation with the Health Ministry, the police, and the Haifa municipality. The forces will practice collaboration between the different emergency institutions and the health system in evacuating casualties and transferring them to the three Haifa hospitals, as well as to hospitals farther away in case they may reach capacity.

In addition to Magen David Adom ambulances and the evacuation vehicles of the Home Front Command, IAF helicopters will also help in the evacuation of casualties and some will even be transferred in the Hercules transport plane which will land in the Haifa airport.

The head of the medical unit in the Home Front Command, Dr. Ariel Bar, will be commanding the drill. GOC Home Front Command Yair Golan will also be present.

The simulation began at 10 am on Tuesday, and expected to last five hours. The drill is also expected to cause traffic jams throughout the city of Haifa.
