ADL voices 'deep concern' over L.A. synagogue shooting

The Anti-Defamation League on Thursday expressed "deep concern" over a shooting at a Los Angeles synagogue earlier in the day in which two people were wounded.

"While we have not confirmed the motive behind this horrendous act, we obviously take a shooting at a synagogue very seriously and ask for the community to contact LAPD or ADL with any information," said Amanda Susskind, ADL regional director.

Early Thursday, a gunman shot and wounded two men in the parking garage of the Adat Yeshurun Valley Sephardic Orthodox synagogue in North Hollywood.

Susskind added: "We commend the Los Angeles Police Department for immediately committing resources to vigorously investigate this crime and for their continuing commitment to the protection of all religious institutions."

The ADL said it was working with the LAPD and the Los Angeles mayor's office.

Likud MK Danny Danon, meanwhile, said the attack was the result of a damning United Nations report on Israel's winter offensive against Hamas in Gaza, compiled by South African jurist Richard Goldstone.

"The criminal attack in Los Angeles is a clear result of the Goldstone report," he said. "Countries across the world need to reject the report, which brings with it hatred and anti-Semitism, and harms the peace process."

Shortly after the attack, U.S. Jewish schools and synagogues were put on alert in case it was not an isolated attack.
