Labor MK: Outpost 'anarchists' break law and consensus

MK Yuli Tamir (Labor) told residents of an unauthorized West Bank outpost on Wednesday that they have broken the national consensus on where construction is allowed in the Gush Etzion settlement bloc.

"Living here are people to whom the law does not apply," the former education minister said while touring the outpost of Netiv Ha'avot with members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

Tamir also criticized handicapped ex-Israel Defense Forces soldier Major Ami Griverzman, who told members of the touring party that the state needed to help people like him to develop the outpost.

"Despite the beauty of the place, you should not have started building without a permit. That is the difference between you and a citizen who obeys the law. By your actions, you are breaking the consensus on Gush Etzion," Tamir told Griverzman, while referring to local residents as "anarchists."

MK Avi Dichter (Kadima) said during the tour that "the settlements are a part and parcel of Israel."

"There is no chance they will be destroyed. The amount of time it takes for planning in Israel is unreasonable," he said.

The state has committed itself several times in the past to dismantling Netiv Haavot, and is supposed to notify the Supreme Court in the next month of its timetable for dismantling the outpost.
