Efrat Peled makes Forbes list of World's 100 Most Powerful Women

The only Israeli woman on Forbes Magazine's list of the World's 100 Most Powerful women is Efrat Peled, the CEO of Arison Investments, in 93rd place. Peled beat out her mentor, billionaire and Bank Hapoalim controlling shareholder Shari Arison, who was not included among the 100 women.

Peled, 35, was named a member of the World Economic Forum's Forum of Young Global Leaders under 40 this year - nominated by Arison. Forbes calls her the CEO of Hapoalim, even though she is only a director of the bank.

Last year, then foreign minister and Kadima party chairwoman Tzipi Livni was the only Israeli woman who made the annual list, in 52nd place. In 2007 Livni was ranked 39 and Bank Leumi CEO Galia Maor was number 83. Topping the list for the fourth year in a row is German Chancellor Angela Merkel, followed by Sheila Bair, the chairwoman of the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

The list of 100 women includes politicians, business leaders and others. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was 16 and Michelle Obama was ranked 40.
