Holding off a vote 101: Children's stories, mental health recommendations, and crossword puzzles

During the long filibuster in the Knesset intended to sabotage the so-called Mofaz Bill, opposition members searched for issues to talk about as unusual as one MK's aliyah through the Sudan Desert.

MK Yohanan Plesner (Kadima), who took the podium, read out a story from a children's book. MK Yoel Hasson (Kadima) took advantage of the live broadcast on the Knesset Channel to call on viewers to text their comments against the Mofaz Bill to his mobile phone.

Although it was late at night he received hundreds of text messages against the bill, Kadima sources said.

MK Shlomo Molla (Kadima), meanwhile, urged the government to hire a psychiatrist.

MK Nitzan Horowitz (Meretz) spoke at length from the podium about his objections to a bill to set up a biometric database.

MK Michael Ben Ari (National Union) spoke for an hour and a half and MK Yaakov Katz, who wanted to remind Molla of the hardships the latter encountered on his trip from Ethiopia to Israel via the Sudan Desert, mistakenly addressed his comments to MK Yoel Hasson.

When his mistake was pointed out to him, Katz said "well, you know my eyesight hasn't been so good for a long time."

During the filibuster, MK Roni Bar-On noticed that Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer (Labor) was engrossed in a crossword puzzle.

"Listen when I speak. This is an important subject. Put that crossword down," Bar-On said.
