IDF opens major West Bank checkpoint to Palestinian foot traffic
By Anshel Pfeffer, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: IDF, Settlements, West Bank

The Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday opened the Hawara checkpoint in the West Bank, in order to ease the passage of Palestinian foot traffic.

The decision follows the IDF's move a little over two weeks ago to open the checkpoint to vehicular traffic.

Hawara is used by thousands of Palestinians every day and separates Nablus from the rest of the West Bank.

IDF soldiers will continue to man the checkpoint, but will only perform random checks on Palestinian pedestrians.
