Investigator admits he was 'directed from above' in probe of Moshe Tamir
By Amos Harel

A Military Police investigator who told a military tribunal that he had received "orders from above" to investigate the ATV accident involving Brig. Gen. Moshe Tamir, testified again yesterday before a special military tribunal.

The investigator, Sgt. 1st Class Eliran Blutman, testified before a tribunal headed by Col. Yaakov Danai (res.), head of internal Military Police investigations. Danai has been tasked with probing the actions of the Military Police in the Tamir affair.

A tribunal earlier this month found Tamir guilty and ordered him demoted to colonel. Following the tribunal's criticism of the functioning of the Military Police investigations department, and its statement that if its suspicions were correct, it would be an "earthquake," Military Advocate General Col. Avihai Mandelblit ordered the special tribunal convened.

Blutman had earlier told the military tribunal that he did not question Tamir under warning and avoided probing the case too deeply. He said he had operated on orders he had received from his commander, Lt. Col. Sassi Megiddo, commander of Military Police investigations in the Israel Defense Forces Southern Command.

Blutman said he believed a directive had come from above, and that the Military Police investigations commander, Col. Meir Ohana, may have known about it.

Channel 2 reported that Blutman had told Danai that he saw Tamir sitting in Megiddo's office and that following the meeting Megiddo instructed Blutman not to question Tamir under warning. Blutman added that Megiddo was at his side during Tamir's questioning and directed him what questions to ask and what directions to take the questions in.
