Egypt to fund translations of Israeli authors Amos Oz, David Grossman

Egyptian readers may be able to read government-funded Arabic translations of works by Israeli authors Amos Oz and David Grossman, after Egypt's culture minister okayed the translation project.

The head of Egypt's National Center for Translation, Jaber Asfour, said he hoped to sign a contract next month with the authors' British and French publishers, "without having to go through the Israeli publishers."

he minister, Farouk Hosni, has said that if he could, he "would burn Israeli books in Egyptian libraries." He apologized for this remark after submitting his candidacy to head UNESCO
