Soul in a bowl / Fish stuffed with bananas
By Doram Gaunt
Tags: Israel recipes, Doram Gaunt

The spicy seasoning changes the familiar character of the banana and turns it into an unusual addition to the delicate flesh of the fish.

Ingredients (4 servings):

4 whole clean sea bream (denis), weighing 400-500 grams each

ripe bananas, peeled
Bunch of coriander leaves, chopped
1 small spicy red chili pepper, finely chopped (or according to taste)
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup lemon juice
Salt and pepper

Preparation:

Cut the banana into slices approximately one centimeter thick and place in a bowl.

Add the chopped coriander, chili pepper, soy sauce, olive oil and lemon juice, and mix gently.

Place each fish on a sheet of aluminum foil big enough to form a sealed enveloped around the fish. Stuff the fish stomach with bananas.

Pour the rest of the sauce on the fish, and then add salt and pepper.

Close the aluminum foil over the fish and fasten into a sealed envelope.

Place the wrapped fish in a baking pan and let sit for about 15 minutes.

Place the sea bream into an oven preheated to 180 degrees centigrade, and bake only until the fish is sufficiently done (about 25-30 minutes, depending on the size of the fish).

Remove from the oven, carefully open the aluminum envelopes and serve immediately.
