Bernard Madoff, the mastermind of a multi-billion-dollar investment fraud, and his wife, had $823 million in assets at the end of 2008, according to court documents his lawyer filed on Friday.

Madoff was jailed on Thursday after pleading guilty to a multi-billion-dollar Ponzi scheme that defrauded dozens of investors. Madoff pleaded guilty to 11 counts, including fraud, perjury, money laundering and theft.

Madoff's assets at the end of last year included $22 million in properties stretching from New York to the French Riviera, a $7 million yacht and a $2.2 million boat named "Bull," according to the court document.

It also listed nearly $10 million worth of furniture and art, $2.6 million in jewelry, a $39,000 Steinway piano and $65,000 worth of silverware in their New York apartment alone.

The document, prepared for the Securities and Exchange Commission at the end of last year, was contained in papers filed with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in an effort to get Madoff freed on bail.

Prosecutors say the disgraced financier, who has spent three months under house arrest, could face a maximum term of 150 years in prison at sentencing June 16.
