Labor MK Raleb Majadele, Israeli's first Muslim minister, called for an end to the Israel Defense Forces operation in the Gaza Strip during a cabinet meeting on Sunday.

Majadele, the minister for science, culture and sport, called on the government to "cease the military operation in Gaza and to return to the diplomatic process in order to give hope to both peoples [Israelis and Palestinians]."

Minister Eli Yishai (Shas) spoke against Majadele's remarks, saying Israel must continue until it crushes Hamas.

Responding to protests around the world against Operation Cast Lead, Minister Yitzhak Cohen (Shas) said "there is no need to get all worked up as a result of international pressure, we will see what they say when rockets rain down over Paris, London or Ankara."

Majadele's decision to boycott's a cabinet meeting last week in protest over the Gaza military operation aroused anger from rightist MKs, with Opposition Leader Benjamin Netanyahu calling for Majadele to be fired.
