The new star of hit TV show 'A Wonderful Country': Ehud Barak
By Mazal Mualem and Haaretz Service

Defense Minister and Labor Chairman Ehud Barak on Tuesday made a guest appearance on the satirical television show "A Wonderful Country."

In his segment, the defense minister was filmed apartment-hunting - an ironic reference to Barak's controversial move to a high-end tower rise in North Tel Aviv, which he has since acknowledged had been an error in judgment.

Barak also mentioned his love for playing the piano, and joked about his own campaign slogan.

Before the airing of the show, which had been taped on Friday, the campaign managers of Likud leader Benjamin Netantyahu and Kadima chief Tzipi Livni said they were weighing their own offers from the show's producers.

Ronen Moshe, a media adviser to Barak, said a television appearance allows the candidate to reach a much larger audience than he or she would otherwise, and that in Barak's case, viewers saw a more personal, accessible figure than they had previously known.

Barak placed only one condition before the producers of the show - that the scene not be aired in the event of a serious security situation.

Meanwhile, Livni's media adviser, Eyal Arad, described her appearance two weeks ago on the Channel 10 Tonight Show with Lior Shlein as an opportunity to show viewers her warmth and self-deprecating humor.
