Students mark Gilad Shalit's third Hanukkah in captivity
By Dana Weiler-Polak

On the third Hanukkah since the kidnapping of Gilad Shalit and his 912th day in captivity, the Student Union at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya held an evening of solidarity yesterday with the soldier's family.

The evening included candle lighting with Shalit's father, Noam, and a musical performance by Liel Colette, Shahar Even Tzur, Ortal Ofek and Yoni Poliker.

"This support, especially from young people, is very important to us and it helps us raise awareness about Gilad," Noam Shalit told participants. "Unfortunately, there is a big gap between the support of the public and the support and action of the Israeli government, and the result is that for two and a half years and three Hanukkahs Gilad has not been with us, but in gloom and darkness."

"We're hoping for a miracle - this is the holiday of miracles - that something will happen and we'll be able to free Gilad, and if not during this holiday then very soon," he said.

Jonathan Davis, head of the IDC's Recanati International School, said, "Maybe we should learn from the Maccabees, and even Herzl and Ben-Gurion, that we must show initiative, daring and determined leadership to reach a goal."
