Bush shoe-throwing incident spawns viral games on the Web

Barely a day had gone by since Iraqi television journalist Muntadar al-Zeidi hurled his shoes at President George W. Bush
during a news conference in Baghdad before Flash software developers were quick to exploit the incident and create a new online game based on the affair.

Boot Camp was created by T-Enterprise, an online viral game company based in Glasgow.

"If you watch the video clip, the Secret Service don't move to protect the President until the second shoe has been thrown," Sadi Chishti, managing director of T-Enterprise, told the British Daily Telegraph. "We're hoping the agents will use this game as a training aid for future footwear attacks on world leaders."

It is doubtful whether games created on the fly are deserving of awards for originality or smooth performance, but the quick reaction of the game's developers warrant praise.

When starting the game, each player takes on the role of a Secret Service agent armed with two handguns. The object of the game is to shoot and intercept the shoes that are flung at the defenseless president without harming him.

The game ends when President Bush's health is whittled down to zero. The game's availability is lacking, perhaps because the incident occurred a short time ago or due to the criticism leveled at the company.

Ridiculopathy.com offers a game that is true to the original concept. Here, the player assumes the role of furious journalist whose task is to hit Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who prove to possess quick reflexes similar to that demonstrated by the U.S. president.
