Bnei Hasharon blames refs for defeat
By Arie Livnat

Bnei Hasharon yesterday suffered its second EuroCup defeat, losing this time in Greece to Aris Thessaloniki 84-71. The club's chairman, Eldad Akunis, had harsh words for the officials. "The referees drained us in the first half," he said. "We got a technical foul, intentional fouls, they gave them every ball. I'm proud of my team, which competed well in this volcano, but it's impossible to deal with everything."

In the middle of the second quarter, when the game was still close, coach Ariel Beit Halahmi was hit with a technical foul. Less than a minute later Haminn Quaintance was charged with an intentional foul.

Thessaloniki ended going up to the foul line 29 times, hitting 22 from the charity stripe, while Bnei Hasharon shot a miserable 6-for-13 of its foul shots.

The Greek squad - which is tearing through its league with a 7-1 record - established a double-digit lead midway through the second period, but outstanding efforts by Cookie Belcher and power forward Ugonna Onyekwe cut the lead to a just a few points by halftime.

Early in the third quarter Sean James showed it was worth the wait for him to come off the disabled list, as he pulled the team to within two at 50-48. But Thessaloniki's scoring machines then took charge, as Dimitrios Tsaldaris and Keydren Clark combined for 27 points to put the game away.

Onyekwe led Bnei Hasharon with 15 points.
