Likud MKs tell Netanyahu: Ignore far-right elements in party

Likud MKs on Wednesday blasted party leader MK Benjamin Netanyahu for his campaign against radical right-wing member Moshe Feiglin and his followers, which they said blows Feiglin and his people out of proportion and strengthens them.

Netanyahu should have ignored Feiglin and his men, they said.

Netanyahu, who has been recruiting moderate public figures to the Likud, fears that Feiglin and his supporters will be elected to high slots on the party's Knesset list and give the Likud a radical image.

Netanyahu asked party MKs not to go to a campaign gathering Feiglin held in Jerusalem Wednesday and his aides hinted that anyone who went would be causing damage to himself.

Consequently, no MKs went to the gathering, which was attended by hundreds of activists, including former MKs Gila Gamliel, Ayoub Kara and Daniel Benlulu.

Feiglin's camp, at an estimated 6,000 members, is seen as a significant bloc within Likud that votes as a group.

The latest Likud recruit was MK Zeev Elkin, who announced yesterday that he was leaving Kadima and joining Likud at a press conference with Netanyahu. Elkin said Kadima leader, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, had turned Kadima into Meretz.
