Coach Blinko takes sacking 'like a man'

Four rounds into the season, Ironi Ramat Gan's Ruby Blinko became the first coach in the basketball premier league to be sacked yesterday. "Ruby took it like a man and even advised me what changes the team needed," Ironi Ramat Gan Chairman Benny Brener said. Blinko stated, following his dismissal, "I had a wonderful time at Ramat Gan. I thank the team and wish it success." (Arie Livnat)

Netanya players mad at coach Matthaus

Maccabi Netanya's Almog Cohen and Itay Shecter met with club owner Daniel Jammer yesterday to complain about coach Lothar Matthaus's decision not to put them in the starting lineup last Saturday. The German coach had played Daniel Humberto and Georges Ba instead, both of whom are set to leave the club in January. Jammer tried to calm the players and told them management was counting on them for the club's future. (Tal Shir)

Ramat Hasharon tops Elitzur Ramle 75-67

Ramat Hasharon yesterday convincingly beat women's basketball champions Elitzur Ramle 75-67. Before the match Ramle coach Eli Rabi boasted that his team was in good shape and well-prepared for the showdown against its biggest opponent. Yet Ramat Hasharon easily handled Ramle, provoking complaints from fans in the stands. "We had a bad day," Rabi admitted. Ramat Hasharon point guard Erin Phillips was the game's MVP. (Shai Nimrodi)
