Livni: Voting for Netanyahu equals selling out to Shas
By Haaretz Service

In an interview on Friday with Channel 2, Kadima chair Tzipi Livni criticized the negotiations between Likud chair Benjamin Netanyahu and ultra-Orthodox party Shas.

"Whoever is willing to sell everything in an attempt to reach the prime minister's seat isn't worthy of that position," Livni said.

She added that despite being unable to form a coalition, she is proud of the fact that she didn't compromise her principles during negotiations with Shas.

"At the point that I was required to pay an impossible price, I said that it is not possible, knowing that Bibi would have given in," said the foreign minister, adding, "I have no doubt that Shas knows what it can get from me and what it can get from Bibi. If anyone in Israel wants the country to look like that, he should vote for Bibi."

Earlier on Friday, Vice Premier Haim Ramon notified Livni that he will contend in the Kadima party's primary elections and will not quit politics, despite recent reports to the contrary.

Livni praised Ramon's decision, saying, "Haim Ramon was and will be an important and central force in Kadima and in the battle against the Likud."

Likud in recent days opened a large, decisive lead of six MKs over Kadima. The right-wing bloc, led by Likud, is also firming up in comparison to previous polls, with 64 MKs versus 56 for the center-left.
