U-21s face Serbia
By Moshe Harush

The national under-21 team faces Serbia tonight in its first official game since being knocked out of the European championship. Motti Ivanir, the head coach, sees the friendly primarily as his first chance to experiment with the next generation of players who will lead Israel in the 2011 European campaign.

Though tonight's match is meaningless, the team desperately wants to defeat Europe's runner-up and to extract some optimism for the future. "We're playing a very strong and talented national team," said midfielder Bibras Natcho yesterday. "They are clearly the favorites in this game, but at home with our fans we want to win and are certainly capable of doing so."

Ivanir has not announced yet whether he would appoint a permanent captain for the new team, but the leading candidate is Oshri Roash, the Hapoel Haifa defender, who draws a lot of positive remarks from his coach.

"We're taking a new path with a younger generation," Roash said yesterday. "There are some players here who are hungry to win and take this team to new heights."
