Police had no warnings about Alperon's killing By Jonathan Lis The Israel Police had no intelligence information about Monday's gangland assassination of crime boss Ya'akov Alperon, said Jackie Bray, head of the police's Economic Crimes Unit yesterday. "If we had known beforehand or if we had obtained any concrete information about it, the man certainly would have been warned again," he said. Advertisement The police have warned members of the Alperon family several times in the past, after they received information about plans to assassinate them. "More than once or twice, the lives of members of the Alperon family were saved," Bray said. Senior police officers said yesterday that the team assembled to investigate Ya'akov Alperon's murder was far from cracking the case. "A lot of information has been coming to the various investigative bodies but there's nothing decisive," one officer said. "For now we have no specific information about an organization contracting the murder. We are taking into consideration the fact that some of the information that has come in contains elements of disinformation, in an effort to prevent the investigators from discovering the identity of the perpetrators." Bray said that even if they had intelligence about the perpetrators' identity, it would take considerable time and a great deal of hard work before this could be translated into evidence admissible in court. "From an intelligence standpoint we are in control and we know quite a bit about the disagreements and the options and everything that could be. Any such assessment could lead us to the perpetrators, to those who ordered the hit or to other links in the chain," he said.
