Inbound El Al flights experience delays By Zohar Blumenkrantz Long delays for El Al flights returning to Israel from Europe continued throughout the day yesterday, following a short-lived strike by Israel Airports Authority employees at Ben-Gurion International Airport. The delays added three to eight hours to the landing times for flights arriving from Europe and the United States. The strike hit El Al particularly hard, since it has the highest number of daily international flights coming through the airport. Advertisement An El Al flight from New York, for example, slated to land yesterday at 5 P.M., was expected to arrive at 1:30 A.M. instead. Meanwhile, talks continued yesterday between management officials, workers' committee representatives and the Histadrut labor federation with the aim of preventing another strike in the future. The negotiations, held yesterday afternoon at the Jerusalem home of Transportation Ministry Director-General Gideon Siterman, followed on the heels of the workers' committee acceding to the request of Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz and Histadrut Chairman Ofer Eini to end the strike after three hours. The meeting focused on wages, organizational streamlining and the employment of contracted workers by the IAI. IAI director Kobi Mor said ahead of yesterday's talks that, "Any financial reward to employees will have to be accompanied by steps toward streamlining on their part."
