Reality to an extent: Big Brother turns a blind eye
By Neta Alexander and Shahar Harel
Tags: Big Brother, Israel News

Thousands of words have been written about how the popular reality show "Big Brother" is lowering Israeli television's standards, but events on the program over the past few days have added a twist to reality on and off the screen.

One of the most prominent participants on the show, Yossi Bublil, bragged to other residents of the house how he and four friends once tried to force a woman to have group sex as part of a bet.

The conversation was broadcast on cable on Channel 20, which shows the goings-on in the house 24 hours a day. A viewer then uploaded it to YouTube, where dozens of "Big Brother" scenes are available. Viewers have put the clips on the site without the permission of Channel 2 franchisee Keshet, which airs the program.

In the clip you can see Bublil sitting in the yard with four other participants; he is telling them how he and four friends once met a woman and invited her to play cards. He said that while she was in the bathroom, he bet his friends he could convince the woman to have sex with them. In return, they would pay him money.

Bublil then told the "Big Brother" participants that he had had sex with the woman, and while she was naked he told her that "now my friends are coming into the room." He claimed to his friends that he had won the bet, but they "wimped out," in his words, and the woman got dressed and fled.

The other "Big Brother" participants did not respond to the story, except for one woman, Shifra Kornfeld, who reproached Bublil, saying it was a horrible story and he should not have told it.

Keshet edited out the section and did not show it in the Channel 2 broadcast. After fans discovered the clip and spread the word in online fan forums, Keshet demanded that YouTube remove the clip.

For now, all you can see on YouTube is a black screen with a statement saying that the clip had been taken down due to copyright demands. Keshet has not asked in the past for other "Big Brother" clips to be removed.

Keshet did not respond before press time.
