IDF soldier, Sudanese refugee recount Egyptian brutality toward migrants

Haaretz.com/Channel 10 daily feature for November 16, 2008.

While elections and Gaza rocket fire may have pushed the issue of infiltration into Israel by Africans out of the headlines, the flow of refugees and migrants across the Sinai border still continues.

An Israel Defense Forces reservist last week recounted seeing a group infiltrate Israel. He spoke of his horror at Egyptian border guards' brutal efforts to stop them, and his distress at the IDF's later return of the migrants to Egypt.

A Sudanese refugee who was in a similar incident also spoke of the violence inflicted by the Egyptian guards.
