Soccer / Maccabi Haifa looks to regain top slot
By Haaretz Sports Staff and Agencies

Maccabi Haifa hopes to bounce back from the dramatic home defeat at the hands of Maccabi Netanya last week - a defeat that saw it lose its unbeaten record and top spot in the standings - by beating Kiryat Shmona at Kiryat Eliezer tomorrow night.

Haifa can regain first place if it wins tomorrow - at least until Netanya hosts Beitar Jerusalem on Monday - and if the form book is any indication, it has every chance of doing just that. Apart from Netanya, no other team has scored more goals that Haifa this season, and no team has scored less that Kiryat Shmona.

In other games, third-placed Maccabi Petah Tikva hosts bottom club Bnei Yehuda, while Hapoel Tel Aviv, currently fourth, travels to the Doha Stadium to face second from last Bnei Sakhnin.

Elsewhere, under-achieving Maccabi Tel Aviv hosts Ashdod and Hapoel Petah Tikva visits Hakoach Ramat Gan.

In the English Premier League, Liverpool faces Bolton tomorrow, looking to bounce back from being dumped out of the Carling Cup by Tottenham.

Liverpool have struggled at the Reebok Stadium in recent years - their win their last year was their first for five seasons - but Benitez is well aware how important it is to win after Wednesday's setback, and restore the momentum to the season.

"If the team goes to Bolton and wins, we'll still be top of the table and everyone will be talking about our priorities," he said. "We're disappointed because I want to win every game. We had a lot of quality in that team and wanted to win. But you have to think about priorities.
