Airports Authority workers forced to cease strike

The Tel Aviv District Court issued a temporary order on Monday morning, instructing Israel Airports Authority employees to cease their strike resume work immediately.

Earlier Monday morning, employees at Ben-Gurion Airport had announced sanctions put into effect the night before would continue, causing disruptions in departing flights and delays in baggage unloading.

The court ordered employees to return to work and agreed to mediate negotiations between the two sides immediately.

The Histadrut labor federation said in response to the sanctions it completely backs the decisions and actions of IAA workers.

Negotiatiosn chief Avi Edri, chairman of the Histadrut's union of transportation workers, said the IAA management has taken an inconsistent line in its decisions.

Two hours into their strike on Sunday night, IAA workers announced they would resume work after the management petitioned the regional labor court requesting an order against the sanctions.

However, the workers nevertheless continued their strike on Monday. The union stated that until further notice, negotiations for a work agreement with management would take place simultaneously. Management did not cave in, and responded that it refuses to negotiate during a strike.

The negotiations that began on Sunday seem to have reached a dead end, as the status of part-time workers and contractor employees remain the unresolved core issued.

Last week, IAA workers initiated a strike when they held a publicity gathering one afternoon and caused a delay in 17 departing flights and baggage unloading.
