10,000 athletes to run in Tel Aviv half marathon today
By Igal Hai
Tags: israel news

The streets of central Tel Aviv will be closed this morning as 10,000 athletes take part in the annual Tel Aviv Half Marathon and fun run. In addition to the traditional 21-kilometer half marathon course, there will be a 5-kilometer event and a 10-kilometer event.

All three events will start at the Hadar Yosef athletic center at 8:45 A.M. and finish at the same place. The events, however, will follow different routes.

During the races, traffic and parking will not be permitted along the following roads: Sheetrit, Rokach, Hayarkon, Eliezer Perry, Herbert Samuel and Nachum Goldman.

Registration for the events was available via the Internet site of the organizing committee, and in the past few days, competitors have been given their kits for the race, including their unique participant number and a special shirt. According to the organizers, some 2,200 athletes will participate in the half marathon, making it the largest such event in Israel.

The half marathon has also attracted professional athletes from Israel and abroad, while the 5- and 10-kilometer events are only open to amateurs. During the events, Magen David Adom will deploy mobile medical units along the route, in case any of the participants feels the strain of the run.
