Livni carves out number 2 for Mofaz By Barak Ravid Kadima leader, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz agreed yesterday to work together to set up the party's campaign headquarters and to prepare the campaign. Relations between the two had been strained since Kadima's leadership primary, held about a month ago, in which Livni was elected chairman. Mofaz, however, was not mollified even after Livni offered him the number two slot on the party's Knesset list. Advertisement Livni met Mofaz yesterday morning and told him she was pleased with the Kadima faction's decision to recommend holding a primary especially to elect him as the party's number two leader. She reiterated that she saw him as number two in leadership in any future coalition Kadima would set up and that his position would be determined accordingly. "After I am elected to form the next government, I intend to appoint you acting prime minister and the cabinet's most senior minister," Livni said. She said Mofaz would be a full, active partner in conducting the coalition negotiations with the various parties for establishing the next government. The two also agreed to jointly coordinate appointing people to positions on the party's election staff. Mofaz does not intend to serve as campaign staff head and reportedly believes that a person with more election experience should be chosen for the job. Mofaz told Livni that regardless of his position in the elections, he would act to ensure Livni and Kadima's success. The two issued a joint statement after the meeting stating that neither of them would set up a power base within the party, especially ahead of the primaries to elect Kadima's Knesset candidates. "Livni and Mofaz agreed to work in coordination and cooperation in the next election campaign to bring Kadima to victory and to set up a government headed by Livni," the statement said.
