Egypt lawyer sues Lieberman for telling Mubarak to 'go to hell'

CAIRO, Egypt - An Egyptian lawyer has launched a lawsuit against rightwing Knesset member Avigdor Lieberman who said last week that Egyptian President Hosni Muabrak could "go to hell."

An official at the general prosecutor's office says the lawyer, Galal Khalil Abdel-Rahman, filed the suit Monday.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information. The lawyer could not be reached for comment.

The official says the suit contends that Lieberman insulted Mubarak when he said last week that the
Egyptian president can "go to hell" because he never makes return visits to Israel but receives Israeli officials in Egypt.

The suit demands Lieberman be summoned on libel charges.

President Shimon Peres and outgoing prime minister Ehud Olmert both issued public apologies to Mubarak following Lieberman's comments at a memorial service for Rehavam Ze'evi, the far-right cabinet minister murdered by Palestinian terrorists outside his hotel room in a Jerusalem hotel in October 2001.
