Rothbart, 22, played in Bosnia last year and for Hapoel Galil Elyon the season before. Ashkelon will feature newly signed Louis Truscott, a 30-year-old power forward. Report: Celtic made serious bid for Barda

Sccttish soccer giant Celtic lodged a 3-million-pound bid to acquire Israeli Elyaniv Barda, who is currently playing for the Belgian club Genk, the Scottish soccer Web site Scotzine reported yesterday. It cited a contract dispute between Barda and Genk, and added that scouts for the Scottish club had spent a month looking at Barda, 26, before the club decided to make an official bid. Dutch clubs PSV Eindhoven, Twente and Heerenveen have also shown interest, Scotzie quoted Barda's agent, Dudu Darhan, as saying, but only Celtic and Twente have made their interest official to date. Barda has 20 goals in 39 appearances at Genk. (Haaretz Sports Staff)

Atar sees Tel Aviv game as a must-win

Beitar Jerusalem head coach Reuven Atar plans to play his starting 11 with only one striker today against Hapoel Tel Aviv. Yesterday, Atar went with only Barak Yitzhaki at the attack position in the team's final practice. Tvrtko Kale will be back between the goalposts after the up-and-coming star Ariel Harush struggled in the team's Toto Cup loss last week to Bnei Yehuda. David Amselm will start in place of the injured Tomer Ben Yosef. "We don't have room to lose one point," said Atar yesterday. "We see the league table and know what can happen if we win."
