Turkish official: Syria-Israel peace would help with Iraq, Iran

The current Turkish efforts to push forward peace talks between Israel and Syria are being spearheaded by the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Justice and Development Party. According to Cetin, these efforts are backed by all of the main political players in Turkey. Syria is an important neighbor to Turkey, Cetin said, no matter who is in power in Ankara.

Cetin has a long and distinguished career in international and domestic politics. From 2003 to 2006, he served as NATO's top civilian official in Afghanistan. At home, he has served as leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) and, deputy prime minister and speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly
