IDF offers rare glimpse into training of elite canine unit

Haaretz.com/Channel 10 daily news brief for October 21, 2008.

The Israel Defense Forces canine elite unit, Oketz, has been instrumental in preventing many terror attacks and is highly sought after by new recruits upon induction.

The army recently gave Channel 10 a rare glimpse into the unit's grueling training program.

The unit's soldiers spoke of their dogs with great affection. And it is not only in training and battle that the animals are accorded respect by their handlers. Dogs killed in action receive a full military funeral.
