Soccer / Petah Tikva steps up attack to secure tie with Beitar
By David Marouani

Tvrtko Kale is the kind of goalkeeper who gives a mini-sign just before he messes up and allows an unnecessary goal. Last night, he almost paid the price when he was mispositioned for a free kick by Yossi Rosen.

In the 47th minute, that was enough for coach Reuven Atar to replace him with Ariel Harush, Beitar's secondary goalkeeper. The substitute's mediocre ability was only enough to scrape out a 2-2 draw at home against Hapoel Petah Tikva.

The game in Teddy Stadium was actually good for a change. Petah Tikva loaded up its front line, which forced a more offensively-minded match, one that was much more exciting than anything witnessed on Saturday.

The scoreboard lit up in the 18th minute as Aviram Bruchian scored off a beautiful pass from Barak Yitzhaki. The game stayed unchanged until the 72nd minute when Shimon Abuhatzira equalized for Petah Tikva. Bruchian put Beitar up again in the 86th minute, but Petah Tikva got one last chance in the 90th minute to bring home a point when Abuhatzira was fouled in the penalty area. Defender Ori Uzan made the penalty kick.

After the game, Ronen Elad, the chair of Hapoel Petah Tikva, said, "That's how it looks when a team like Petah Tikva plays in Teddy with three or four strikers. We gave a show, and we deserved a tie if not more."
