Deputy FM protests gov't delays in funding of Druze sector
By Yoav Stern, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Magli Wahabi, Israel News

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni's deputy Magli Wahabi on Tuesday sent a letter to outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in which he criticized Olmert's intention to hold a government meeting to determine whether to make sharp cuts in government allotments to the Druze sector.

Wahabi stated in the letter that the Finance Ministry intends to delay the transfer of funds earmarked to the Druze sector until fiscal year 2011. Government allotments for 2008 have still not been sent, and the Finance Ministry has reportedly sought to delay their payment until after 2010.

Wahabi has opposed the delay, saying in his letter that in light of the current global financial crisis, it would be irresponsible to cause further losses among the weakest sectors of the population.
