IDF boosts deployment in West Bank ahead of Rosh Hashanah

Israel boosted its deployment of security forces across the West Bank on Monday and imposed a closure on the territory ahead of Rosh Hashanah, according to Army Radio.

Large numbers of Border Policemen and regular police were positioned in major West Bank cities and along border with Israel, in an effort to prevent Palestinian attacks over the Jewish holiday.

The military said the closure would be lifted late Wednesday, depending on security considerations.

It meant Palestinians would be banned from entering Israel until the closure is lifted. The statement said exceptions would be made for those in need of humanitarian and medical aid, as well as several categories of workers and officials.

Army Radio reported that during the holiday, security forces will also be deployed in areas in Israel such as parks and other spaces where large crowds were expected to congregate over the holiday.
