Netanya holds on to top spot, Hapoel Tel Aviv wins at last
By Haaretz Sports Staff

Maccabi Netanya maintained its grip on the Premier League table yesterday, after an injury-time goal from Dedi Ben-Dayan canceled out a second-half equalizer from S.C. Ashdod's Amir Lavi to win 2-1. Ben-Dayan had given Netanya the lead four minutes after half-time, with a powerful header.

In third place ahead of yesterday's games, Maccabi Tel Aviv faced a tricky road trip to Sakhnin, and was lucky to come away with all three points, winning 3-2. A two-minute blitz in the first half gave Maccabi a seemingly comfortable margin - thanks to goals in the 13th and 15th minutes from Yannick Kamanan and Maor Buzaglo - but Sakhnin rallied in the second period when Robertas Poskus pulled one back in the 56th minute and Awudu Okocha leveled in the 64th minute. But Maccabi proved too strong for the home team, with Ilya Yavruyan scoring what turned out to be the winning goal with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Hapoel Tel Aviv, meanwhile, recorded its first win of the season, beating Hapoel Petah Tikva 3-2 at Bloomfield. The winning goal came two minutes from time, when Bulgarian Dimitar Telkiyski sent a powerful free-kick past Shavit Elimelech.

Maccabi Petah Tikva leapfrogged to third place in the table with a 1-0 victory over Hakoach Ramat Gan, through a 23rd-minute goal from Omer Buchsenbaum. At the foot of the table, Hapoel Kiryat Shmona scored a vital away victory over Bnei Yehuda, with Omer Peretz netting the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute.

In tomorrow's final game of the round, Beitar Jerusalem faces Maccabi Haifa at the Teddy stadium.
