Israeli hospitals suffering shortage of drug crucial to surgeries
By Haaretz Staff and Channel 10
Tags: Hospitals, Israel, Fentanyl

Israeli hospitals are currently suffering a severe shortage of a drug that is integral to hundreds of surgeries every day.

Most major hospitals are running out Fentanyl, having dipped into their emergency reserves which are meant to last up to three weeks.

Fentanyl is a powerful analgesic, critical to the first stage of general anesthesia.

Should hospitals run out of the drug, they would need to resort to old and outdated pain relievers for surgeries, including morphine, which is far less effective and much more dangerous.
