PA security forces raid West Bank office of Hamas legislator
By Reuters

Abbas has recently stepped up a campaign against Hamas Islamists in the West Bank city, arresting some 15 activists and closing down four organizations which Hamas said were purely charitable.

Pro-Abbas Fatah forces hold sway in the West Bank, but they lost control of the Gaza Strip to Hamas last year, deepening the split in Palestinian ranks as Abbas seeks a comprehensive peace accord with Israel, which Hamas opposes.

Egyptian efforts to reconcile the two Palestinian factions have so far shown no sign of progress.
