11 years after 'naval commando disaster' in Lebanon, sole unscathed survivor tells his story

On the night of September 4, 1997, 16 naval commando fighters embarked on an incursion in a Lebanese coastal town to lay explosives and head out.

Eleven years later, the only unscathed survivor of the naval commando disaster, considered the most traumatic event in the history of the elite unit, has finally decided to tell his story.

a'ar was 21, and had never operated under fire. At that point, the naval commando special unit, called the Shayetet in Hebrew, hadn't lost any troops since the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
